The author is an active contributor to African affairs and debates. Nigeria 1966 is his third book. It follows The Ethnic Factor: A Treatise and a Tale, a thought provoking work on the ethnic politics in Africa, with Nigeria as the focus.
Ikeazor has dared to deal with many sensitive issues habitually avoided by the political establishment of that most important African nation to detriment of their national political progress. Clearly, the failure of Nigerians to reconcile or recover from 1966 led to the outbreak of civil war and what was to become one of African's bloodiest conflict on July 6th 1967.
Since the end that war in 1970, have Nigerians reconciled their differences over that crucial year 1966 or the events that led up to it?
Have their leaders bothered to discuss and sought to reconcile the issues that led to the crisis and the civil war? Have they reconciled their misunderstandings and differences in their national relations? Have the pains of the past been soothed or have they just been buried, ignored or suppressed? What are the consequences of these failures to meaningful reconciliation. This book treats these critical questions and many more.
